Artist Biography

Abi Joy Samuel (born 1993) is a fine artist known for her multiple award-winning artwork that explores the beauty and complexity of the female form. Her paintings capture the essence of women in the present moment, while also delving into the deep roots of their representation in art history and religious iconography.

 

Samuel received her education in art and design at Central Saint Martins and the University of Westminster, where she earned a degree in Fashion Design. Her first solo show attracted the attention of an art critic from The New York Times, launching her career in the art world.

 

In 2019, Samuel was awarded the prestigious Lexus Prize at the Hampstead Art Fair and more recently awarded 1st prize at Inch Arts Gallery in Manchester. She has also completed a 10-week intensive drawing program at the Royal Drawing School, further refining her skills as an artist.

 

Samuel is represented by the London-based Cicek Gallery and has a solo show coming up at J/M Gallery in Notting Hill on May 3rd, 2023. Her work will also be featured in a group show in San Francisco at the same time. Her studio is based in North London.
