There are 50 limited edition prints available of this painting I produced for my second solo exhibition 'Piety & Sex'.
This painting is a take on John Millais' painting of Ophelia (1851). It was completed over a period of 4 months, the idea being formed whilst staying in my friend's art studio located on a farm in the countryside. I spent several weeks in isolation drawing up the idea and executing it.
This painting encapsulates the heart break I endured after the sudden collapse of my 4 year relationship with my Indian partner who I met whilst working for a fashion designer in Delhi. I present this through the character of Ophelia, who has dressed herself up in the finest Elizabethan costume in the hope her lover should return, she wants to look her very best. She resides floating in a river, waiting. The dress represents disillusionment, escapism and desperation.
