About the event
When we are trying to get better as artists, it can be really important to study how other professional artists work. This enables us to expand our technique and way of thinking with the knowing that if they did it, then it must be good.
The intention isn't to copy them, or try and be someone we are not, but to step into the mind of an expert, take the bits WE like, and filter them into our own practice.
The first 15 minutes of this session, I will be going over the key facts of Jenny Saville's life and her philosophy to understand WHY she creates what she creates. Then, I will take key pieces of her work and compare them directly with the influence to better our understanding of how exactly she interprets what inspires her. After, we will take a look at images of her studio and analyse them in depth so we can understand her set up and her materials.
Once the theory side is done, we will jump into some exciting and fast pace drawing exercises that will help us create art the way Jenny Saville does, finished off with a slightly longer drawing and then a show-and-tell. We will be working from photographs for this session as this is what Jenny Saville does.
By the end of this session, you will have several exciting figure drawings. You will feel you have expanded your technique and learnt loads about one of the World's leading figurative painters!
If you can, please bring with some paper, A3 or A2 size (large is great for Jenny Saville style) plus some charcoal and pastels if you have any!
Highly recommened for artists of all abilities. This is an open space for creative expansion.
